Tenders for the construction of the 1000MW electricity interconnection linking Israel-Cyprus-Crete-Attica in final stage

Nicosia/Brussels, 19 July 2019 – The EuroAsia Interconnector Limited, the official Project Developer of the Israel-Cyprus-Crete-Attica European Project of Common Interest EuroAsia Interconnector (PCI 3.10), is proceeding on schedule with the tenders process for the construction of the subsea cable and HVDC converter stations, and is expecting the submission of final tenders from all preselected Economic Operators for the timely implementation of the project in 2022 for the Crete-Attica interconnector and 2023 for the Crete-Cyprus interconnector, as submitted to the European Commission.

Following the Invitations to Tender (ITT) sent to all selected Economic Operators inviting them to prepare and submit their final tenders, world leading manufacturers have expressed their strong interest and are participating in the final tender process.

The below tender procedures that were launched on July 3 through the publication of Contract Notices to the TED database of the Official Journal of the European Union, follow the negotiated procedure and each contract will be awarded to the most economically advantageous tender.

The ITT packages were prepared by the Project Developer and its consultants, Elia Grid International (EGI), a subsidiary of Elia Group, one of the leading groups of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in Europe, which acts as Strategic Consultant to the Project Developer, Teshmont Consultants LP which specialises in HVDC power transmission systems and is leading all the other technical consultants of the Project Developer, and Clifford Chance LLP as the legal advisor.

The selected Economic Operators are invited to submit electronically their tenders via the Ariba platform, which will be evaluated based on the technical characteristics of the proposed solutions, the commercial and legal terms of the contract and the proposed way of managing matters relating to safety, health and environmental protection (HSE).

Priority in the order of construction of the interconnection will be given to the Crete-Attica Link, with the Cyprus-Crete Link to follow. The estimated commissioning dates of the first two links of the electrical interconnection EuroAsia Interconnector are:

• PCI 3.10.3 – Internal line between Korakia, Crete (EL) and Attica (EL)-September 2022
• PCI 3.10.2 – Interconnection between Kofinou (CY) and Korakia, Crete (EL)-December 2023
